Your Questions, Answered

General

  • All BluSENSE products are proudly designed and manufactured in California, USA.

  • No. All BluSENSE products process and store data locally using edge computing. Internet connectivity is optional and only needed for remote access and cloud backup. When connectivity is available, cellular LTE backup automatically restores the connection if your local network fails.

  • Yes. All data is protected with military-grade encryption. Your data is never stored on servers or systems you don't own — and legally, it's yours. Always.

  • You will receive an alert via email and/or SMS when data levels fall outside a preset range and time.

  • No. BluSENSE devices can be accessed remotely via a web browser using a live dashboard offering continuous status reports, current and historical data, calibration options, data export options, trends, and report and graph generators. A USB port is also available for on-site data download.

  • Yes. BluSENSE uses real-time data verification for down-to-the-second results before data is transmitted. Each device records an accurate timestamp at the point of measurement — not when the data packet is processed by a server. This eliminates the timestamp errors common in cloud-based systems.

  • Data is stored locally and backed up to the cloud, so it remains safe even during a power outage or sensor failure. All BluSENSE devices include a backup battery providing continuous operation for up to two weeks.

  • BluSENSE devices are straightforward to set up. Most wireless sensors are automatically configured once the QR code on their label is scanned. Wired sensors follow a simple connection process covered in our installation guides.

  • BluSENSE supports all commonly used wireless protocols including LoRaWAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee. LoRaWAN sensors have a range of up to six miles. Wi-Fi sensors have a range of up to 500 feet depending on surrounding structures. Bluetooth typically has a range of 50 feet and Zigbee 300 feet.

  • Depending on the communication protocol and device configuration, several hundred sensors can be connected. BluSENSE supports around 200 sensor types including flow, pressure, temperature, fluid level, current, voltage, air quality, and water quality.

BluCORE

  • No. BluCORE processes and stores data locally using edge computing. Internet connectivity is optional and only needed for remote access and cloud backup.

  • BluCORE can support hundreds of sensor inputs, either directly or through networked BluNODE devices. The exact number depends on your configuration.

  • Yes. BluCORE can share data with BMS platforms via API, Modbus, or data exports. Our team can assist with integration.

  • BluCORE provides a live dashboard with continuous status reports, current and historical data, trends, calibration options, data export, and report and graph generators — accessible via any web browser from anywhere.

  • Absolutely. BluCORE is designed for both new construction and retrofit applications, with flexible sensor and connectivity options.

  • We offer three support plans — The Starter, The Pro Setup, and The Expert Edge — covering everything from initial setup to ongoing optimization. View Support Plans

BluNODE

  • BluNODE includes 20 temperature inputs, 4 pulse inputs, 4 current transformer inputs, and 40 Modbus sensor connections — covering most building monitoring applications without expansion boards.

  • es. You can add the CL board (4-20mA analog) at any time — at purchase or in the field. Boards are customer-installed with detailed instructions provided. The DP board (differential pressure) is currently in development — coming soon.

  • Most applications work fine with the base BluNODE. Add the CL board if you need industrial 4-20mA sensors such as pressure transducers or flow meters. The DP board for differential pressure monitoring is coming soon.

  • es. BluNODE will support both expansion boards simultaneously for complete monitoring capability. The DP board is currently in development — coming soon.

  • Yes. BluNODE functions as a standalone data logger with local storage and processing. BluCORE integration is optional for centralized monitoring.

  • Absolutely. BluNODE's compact design and flexible mounting options make it ideal for temporary installations or redeployment as monitoring needs change.

  • No. BluNODE operates independently with local data storage. Connectivity (Wi-Fi, cellular, LoRaWAN) is optional for remote access and data transmission.

BluPULSE

  • BluPULSE works with any meter that has a pulse output (dry contact, reed switch, or solid-state). This includes water meters, gas meters, electric meters, steam meters, and more.

  • No. BluPULSE connects to the existing pulse output on your meter — no modification or replacement required.

  • BluPULSE requires connection to either BluCORE or BluNODE for data collection and transmission. It does not operate as a standalone device.

  • BluPULSE captures every pulse from the connected meter with high precision, making it suitable for revenue-grade metering and billing applications.

  • BluPULSE can accurately count pulse rates up to several hundred pulses per second, making it suitable for high-flow applications.

  • This depends on your system configuration and communication method. Contact our team for guidance on sizing your deployment.

Sensors

  • BluSENSE supports wired, wireless, analog, and digital sensors across a wide range of measurement types including temperature, relative humidity, pressure, flow rate, current, voltage, air quality, and water quality.

  • The right flow meter depends on your application, budget, and installation constraints. Here's a quick guide:

    • Pulse flow meters — accurate, inexpensive, ideal for long-term studies and meter integration. Require inline installation.

    • Ultrasound flow meters — no pipe opening required, ideal for short to medium studies. Not recommended for low-flow or leak detection.

    • Vortex flow meters — measure pressure and temperature simultaneously. Cannot read flows below ¼ gallon per minute, so not suited for leak detection.

    • Magnetic flow meters — ideal for liquids with contaminants or solids. No moving parts. Mid-range price.

Need help choosing? Our support plans include expert sensor selection guidance.

  • For most applications we recommend One Wire semiconductor sensors — inexpensive, highly accurate (±0.2°C), and up to 10 sensors can be strung together on a single input. For specialist applications, RTDs, infrared (IR), or IR array sensors may be more appropriate depending on your requirements.

  • Split-type current transformers (CTs) clip onto the wire you want to measure and produce a small voltage proportional to the current flow. They are easy to install without opening the electrical wiring and are the standard choice for most energy monitoring applications. Note: CTs measure current only — voltage must be measured separately or assumed constant for accurate watt calculations.

  • BluSENSE supports piezo electric pressure sensors and differential pressure sensors. Pressure sensors require insertion into the fluid being measured. Differential pressure sensors are particularly useful for HVAC systems and measuring pressure drops across components.

  • BluSENSE supports float, magnetic, conductive, and ultrasound level sensors. For most applications we recommend ultrasound level sensors — contactless, reliable, accurate, and low maintenance. Conductive sensors are ideal specifically for leak detection.

  • Yes. Every sensor we offer has been extensively tested and proven to integrate seamlessly with BluCORE, BluNODE, and BluPULSE. We only recommend sensors that meet our standards for real-world reliability and accuracy.

  • Yes. BluSENSE is an open-standards platform and is compatible with a wide range of third-party sensors. However, we recommend using sensors from our vetted catalog to ensure compatibility and performance. Our support plans include expert guidance on sensor selection.
